A guide to different fabrics and how to care for them

Here are some of the care tips for the different fabric products we sell at Gruham.

Please note:
1. Zari products: Wash each product in mild soapy water and dry it in the shade. Recommended to get it dry-cleaned for best results.
2. Silk products: These are very delicate. Dry cleaning is recommended. Do not wash them. If ironing, use two pieces of cloth so as to not iron over them directly.
3. Chiffon and Georgette products: Make sure not to wrap them too tightly. Dry clean is recommended.
4. Tissue and organza products: They are delicate fabrics. Do not machine wash. Dry clean is recommended.
5. Cotton products: Before washing a cotton product for the 1st time, soak it for about 10-15 minutes in a bucket of warm water mixed with rock salt. This will ensure that the color latches on to the fabric and will prevent the saree from bleeding color during subsequent washes.
6. Keep changing the folds of the stored sarees and ensembles. Refolding them from time to time will ensure that the fabric does not tear from creases.

Comfort is how the fabric feels on your skin when you are wearing it. This is based on both the breathability and the thickness and surface of the fabric itself.
Wrinkle-Resistant is related to whether the fabric easily wrinkles or whether it can be folded or creased without wrinkles forming.
Function relates to the fabric and how it interacts with your skin. When choosing a fabric, make sure to choose one that reflects how you want to wear it – when choosing summer fabrics go for cooling ones and when choosing winter fabrics make sure they are warming.
Machine Wash relates to whether a fabric can be easily cleaned in the washing machine. If it cannot be machine washed, you can assume it either needs to be hand washed or dry cleaned.
